Types of Leather Upholstery We Repair

Residential Furniture - Sofas, loveseats, sectionals, chairs, recliners, ottomans, headboards, dining chairs, and more. We repair leather furniture from all manufacturers and in all conditions. Whether it's a budget piece from Rooms To Go or a high-end Natuzzi, we can restore it.

Automotive - Car seats, door panels, center consoles, steering wheels, headrests, dashboards. All makes and models from daily drivers to luxury and classic vehicles. We work on everything from Hondas to Ferraris.

Marine - Boat seats, helm chairs, sun pads, cockpit cushions, bow cushions, transom seating. We use materials designed to withstand Lake Allatoona conditions - sun, water, mildew, and constant UV exposure.

Motorcycle - Seats, saddlebags, tank covers, and accessories. Motorcycle leather takes a beating from sun and weather. We restore it so you can ride in style.

Commercial - Office chairs, reception furniture, restaurant seating, medical exam tables, gym equipment, hotel furniture. We work with businesses throughout Cherokee County and North Atlanta.

Specialty Items - Bar stools, gaming chairs, massage table covers, beauty salon chairs, dental chairs - if it's got leather upholstery, we can repair it.

Common Upholstery Issues

Leather upholstery faces unique challenges because it's constantly being used. Seating areas get sat on thousands of times. Armrests get leaned on. Headrests absorb hair oils. Cushions flex and stretch. Over time this causes wear that needs professional repair.

Fading and Color Loss - Sun exposure and body oils break down the leather finish. The color fades unevenly, often worst on seat cushions and armrests. We restore color to match the original or change it entirely.

Cracks and Peeling - When leather dries out, the finish cracks and peels. Georgia's humidity swings make this worse. We repair cracks, condition the leather, and apply new finish.

Tears and Rips - From pets, kids, keys, belt buckles, or just age - tears happen. We repair tears with sub-patches and professional filler so you can't see the repair.

Scratches - Pet claws, keys, jewelry, zippers - scratches accumulate over time. We remove scratches and restore the smooth leather surface.

Loose or Sagging Leather - Leather stretches with use. Eventually it can sag and look worn out. We can often tighten loose leather or replace the padding beneath it.

Worn and Thin Areas - High-use spots wear thin over time. The leather may still be intact but it's noticeably worn. We reinforce thin areas and restore the surface.

Staining and Discoloration - Ink, food, drinks, dye transfer, body oils - stains happen. We remove what we can and cover what we can't with color restoration.

Understanding Leather Types

Different types of leather require different repair approaches. Understanding what you have helps us provide the best repair.

Pigmented/Protected Leather - The most common type. Has a protective coating that makes it more durable and stain-resistant. This type repairs very well.

Semi-Aniline Leather - Has a light coating but still shows natural characteristics. Softer than pigmented leather. Needs more careful handling during repair.

Aniline Leather - The softest, most natural feeling leather with minimal coating. Shows all natural marks and variations. Requires specialized repair techniques.

Bonded Leather - Made from leather fibers mixed with polyurethane. When this peels, repair options are limited, but we can often improve appearance.

Vinyl/Faux Leather - Not actually leather but we repair this too. Different products and techniques but same quality results.

Repair vs. Reupholstery

Sometimes people think they need complete reupholstery when repair would work just fine. Reupholstery means removing all the leather and replacing it with new material - that's expensive and time-consuming.

Repair keeps your existing leather and fixes the damage, which costs much less. For many situations, repair gives you 80-90% of the result at 20-30% of the cost.

When does reupholstery make more sense? When the leather is extensively damaged over most of the surface. When the padding or structure underneath needs replacement. When the leather has deteriorated to the point it can't hold repair materials. Or when you want to change to a completely different material.

We always assess whether repair or reupholstery makes more sense for your situation. If repair will give good results, we'll tell you. If the leather is too far gone and reupholstery is the better option, we'll tell you that too. We'd rather give you honest advice than sell you a repair that won't hold up.

Our Repair Process

Assessment - We examine the item to understand the damage, leather type, and condition. We give you an honest assessment and detailed quote.

Cleaning - The leather is thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, oils, and old products that would interfere with repair.

Structural Repair - Any tears, holes, or structural damage is addressed first. Sub-patches, filler, and reinforcement create a solid foundation.

Surface Preparation - The surface is prepped for color application. This may include sanding smooth areas, removing loose finish, or abrading for adhesion.

Color Matching and Application - We match your exact color using spectrophotometer technology, then apply color in thin, even coats.

Finishing - A protective topcoat seals the repair and provides the appropriate sheen. The result blends invisibly with the surrounding leather.

Quality and Durability

Our repairs are designed to last. We use professional-grade materials that bond properly to leather and stand up to normal use. A properly repaired area should last for years with normal care.

We also educate our customers on proper leather care to extend the life of their upholstery. Simple maintenance makes a big difference in how long your leather looks good. We can recommend products and routines specific to your leather type.
